About Jess Jewett
I am an artist and maker working across ceramics, surface pattern design, print, and collage. My practice centres on a love of colour, pattern, and handmade processes, creating work that brings beauty and joy to everyday life. I produce functional earthenware ceramics, bold hand-printed patterned papers, and intricate layered collage artworks, combining traditional craft influences with an intuitive, playful approach to materials. Defined by vibrant colour, expressive pattern, and careful craftsmanship, my work is designed to uplift the spirit and enrich daily rituals. My work has been featured in Uppercase Magazine.
Ceramics
My ceramics are a collection of functional, handcrafted pieces designed to bring colour and joy to everyday life. Working with earthenware clay, I create pots, bowls, vases, and jugs with forms and decoration often inspired by early English pottery, with particular appreciation of traditional spongeware. Each piece is decorated by hand using vibrant underglazes and finished with a clear glaze, resulting in bold, uplifting pots defined by contrasting colour, stripes, and lively sponge or brushwork. Turned feet, high-footed forms, and hand pulled handles reflect my enthusiasm for traditional craftsmanship, while the vivid decoration gives each piece a distinctive contemporary character. Every work is individually made, celebrating the beauty and uniqueness of handmade objects intended for daily use.
Patterned Papers
My patterned papers are created through relief printing processes, using hand-carved rubber stamps and inks. I build patterns through block printing, experimenting with colour and motif until the design feels vibrant and alive. The results are bold compositions, strong colour combinations, and lively patters that are both striking and unusual. Each design is created to bring beauty to the everyday — surrounding us with colour, pattern, and visual joy to lifts the spirits.
3-Dimensional Collage
My 3D collage cards are celebration artworks that transform the traditional greeting card into a lasting, sculptural object. I create each piece using gathered paper ephemera, found materials, cardboard, and watercolour paint. Through careful layering, cutting, and construction, the compositions have depth and texture, creating scenes that feel lively and engaging. Each work is thoughtfully tailored to an individual or occasion — from birthdays to special milestones — resulting in unique, handcrafted pieces that stand upright and can be displayed, serving as both a card and a keepsake artwork.
